NPR on SBS

Under the 'TV' tab, above, I have a link to the program The Child Cases. This was a program done jointly by Frontline, NPR, & ProPublica. I would like to share some audio clips from NPR on the subject of Shaken Baby Syndrome.

I am personally aware of a Washington State CPS 'caseworker'
who does not have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field,
(social work, psychology, anthropology, sociology, education, etc.).

Woman convicted of abusing, kidnapping missing girl

I posted about Rilya Wilson three times in 2012:
on Dec 14 & Dec 6.

I have now come across an article in USA Today:

According to the unnamed author (copyright is given to The Associated Press), Geralyn Graham, Rilya Wilson's foster mother "was convicted Friday of child abuse and kidnapping ..., but a mistrial was declared on a murder charge after jurors were narrowly unable to agree."

Schools could become hubs for many state social services

I have come across a very disturbing article: Schools could become hubs for many state social services. According to Paul Egan of the Detroit Free Press. "Schools could become new hubs for state services including welfare, child protection, job assistance, and even those related to vehicle registrations and driver's licenses...."

Adoptive families fight curtailment cuts

This video (and the written news story) can be found at

"The state pays families who adopt children with histories of trauma, abuse, neglect and other issues an average of $26 a day to help offset the added costs that go along with having children with those special needs. Under the curtailment order, that subsidy would go down to $13 a day between April and June." (emphasis mine)

(This news story links to transcripts from the abuse hotline,
& a DCF report on the family.)

The story of Dontrell Melvin (& his siblings)
is, of course, unbelievably tragic.
And, to me, it begs the question,
"Why does CPS remove children from descent families,
while leaving children with families such as this?"
I simply do not understand.

State revokes Hauers' child foster care license

On November 8, 2012, I posted a video about Mona and Russell Hauer, who have been accused of starving their adopted son. It has come to my attention (via the article State revokes Hauers' child foster care license) that they were foster parents & have had their license revoked.

CPS visitation trouble---Some parents may get to see kids soon

I have an update on my December 15, 2012 post
in which CPS claimed that misunderstandings were causing loss of visitation.

As in my Dec 15th post, there are links to related content.

I feel the need to add an unprofessional comment here.
This "misunderstanding" on the part of CPS sure has taken a long time to fix.
